Hello Moon in 2008

Hello,

Hope the New Year is just going wonderfully for everyone out there, and that your holidays were just awesome.

We are making lots of changes this year. First of all we are finally looking into some help with our children so we can actually get some work done. They are with us in the shop and lately it’s been very very hard to get anything done. So, we are introducing some awesome nannies into our life, to keep their attention on their own projects while we get a good chunk of time to work together on our lovely pots for your lovely shops and galleries.

We are still going to be at our local market on the weekends even though the market itself will be sort of in transition this year, it is moving next year to the waterfront, which should be really cool.

Rick and I are musicians, some of you know that, well, it’s how we met each other about 12 years ago. We started a band together back then (Spin Jupiter Spin) and then we stopped and Rick went off on his own with his great band (Rick Bain) and then we had Andrews accident and spent all our time fighting to keep the pottery going and then eventually buying this business and then having our first child 19 days after that. Rick made 2 records and has quite a following but we had no time to spare for that so he just played locally maybe once a month at big shows.

I am mentioning that because we are playing together again this year. We had our first show on New Years Eve and it was fantastic…we are going on just a 5 day tour in early Feb…and another in late March. (Sundown Machine)

So the new nanny thing is great we will be able to still make the wonderful pottery and also play music, we couldn’t ask for a better life than that.

The last thing is that this year we want to spend more time with Andrew, he seems to be interested in making pottery again and we want to sort of help him with that this year.

So, we will be more active with this studio blog and keep it up to date on when we are going to be gone and stuff. We are really excited about this year and having help with the children, we never have had help before and I think it will make a world of difference with our ship times and our consistency.

Hope we all have a great year,
amyjane.

an update sept 12

Our daughter Elva has been making faces out of clay since she was 3 and now she tells us what colors to glaze them and then when they are done she glues magnets to the back and she has been selling them at the market!!

She is saving for a car, of all things, hehe.

We are about to take some better photos of our work, especially the jewelry. Our jewelry is just doing so well, we have been pleasantly surprised by the response we’ve gotten at the market.

So, that is sort of what is going on presently. Rick is making more pots right now and soon I’m gonna go and finish it up…our daughter is playing with her cat and our son is stomping through the house making siren noises ( cute ones, not so loud ).

It’s a pretty good day. It has been so much better for our family to scale the business back a little…now we have time to enjoy each other, and that is one of the top 5 most important things to do in the world, in my opinion.

Approaching the business from a more relaxed base…seems to be having just great effects on everything. Our production is actually beginning to rise again and we are smiling more while it happens…hehe.

We hope you are all just doing wonderfully and having great experiences.
Maybe we can do a show or two this next year, we are working towards it, would be so great.

Website news.

Well, the best news is that I remember how to fix the site, hehe…thought maybe I’d forget.

I have added some things:

On our ordering page I added a link to our Orderforms and a Jpeg of our styles and colors. I am not sure how much I like the way they work. I will have to figure out a better way, but for now…the Orderforms links just prompt you to answer “what you wanna do with the file…open with what.) Well, they are Word documents. Then the Jpeg opens in another window…because it was just going to it without a link back to the site, so I figured that was best for now. (til i learn more)

On our Display page I added links to download customer cards, 2 different kinds. Same thing with them, you are prompted to answer how you want to download them.

I just don’t know very much about making websites, but I did pretty good. It’s so much fun, but does tend to cut into the rest of my life a bit, it is a lot to learn…starting from nothing, you know?

All suggestions are more than welcome. You can post them here or send us an email. hellomoonstudios@gmail.com

Now, back to the pots!

our new site is up!

Hooray!

We just put our new site online and we love it! Our old site….just wasn’t working for us. So, Amy has been using her spare time (haha, as if she had any) to learn html and create our newer, better website. Tell us what you think! Either here or at our email: hellomoonstudios@gmail.com .

There are still a few pages under construction, as you’ll notice…but they will soon be finished because the one major thing that is different about this site is it was created by us and that means we can update it ourselves and fix it any old time we want without calling anyone!!

YAY!!

Too happy for words.
Now, bedtime…as the kiln is bisquing away, kids are sleeping, cats are playing.

Happiness to you,

R&A Bain.

Hello world!

Welcome to our new studio blog! This is our very first post. We are hoping to use this to keep in touch with you and to see for ourselves what we’ve been up to.

Our new studio is just lovely. It is much cozier than our previous ones. It’s nice to be in it. We have many windows which is absolutely necessary in my opinion…and a place outside to work as well…heavenly. (we had 2 windows in our downtown studio…and one big garage door at our “country” studio.)

Our children love being here with us now. They have many places to play and work along side us.

Everything is just getting better and better all the time, and we hope that it is the same for all of you.

love,

R&A
